Beautiful details

Beautiful Details is a class that focuses on adding your own details to a card. I created one (well, three) back in May using the first technique taught in the class, and then one just recently using a different technique for a bridal shower card for my niece.

The first lesson in the class focused on using a solid image stamp and multiple generation stamping using zig markers to create a flower, or other design from the stamp. I used a solid image from A Gift For You set I received from Altenew this spring, and a zig marker as my ink for the stamp. The foliage was stamped in jet black crisp dye ink, then I went back and added in detail lines on my flowers using an Arteza fine line marker to create the feel of petals. I stamped the sentiment Happy Mother’s Day on onyx card stock, using versa mark ink and white embossing powder. I finished the card front off with a few nuvo drops.

The second card used only the outline stamp from the Majestic Bloom stamp set in Jet Black Crisp Dye Ink and clear embossing powder. I then filled in the flower using zig markers. I chose warm grey 2 to fill in the flower, and add the start of some shadows and dimension. I followed that with green grey to really develop the shadows. The center of the flower is mustard and yellow topped with spectrum noir shimmer pen. The leaves are stamped in frayed leaf and forest glade crisp dye inks, with the mid green zig marker used for detail.

I stamped the sentiment “wishing you a lifetime of love” (Gina K) in gold embossing powder on a strip of vellum. I adhered the vellum on the back of the card front, then mounted the whole card front on fresh asparagus (Gina K) card stock. This then was adhered to a white card base. To finish the inside, I stamped a Taylored Expressions sentiment on white card stock, then framed that in the same asparagus green card stock.

This class was difficult for me to tackle with confidence. I found it challenging to add my own details, but it was also very freeing once I finally just allowed myself to let go.

My inspiration for the bridal shower came from her colors for the wedding, and that I wanted a very classy card that was not filled with a lot of shine and bling. My take away from this class is to trust my instincts and to keep adding in my own personal touches, to not be afraid to add a few, or even several, extra details to stamped images, that I don’t need to limit myself to just using my stamps exactly as they are packaged.

As always, thank you for taking the time to read our blog, and I hope this inspires you to go out and create something!

Love the result of the first card! The second card is also beautifully done, however, if you would have taken photos in daylight the result would have been amazing and your project’s details would have stood out more.
Thank you for entering your work to the AECP assignment gallery.
