Mother’s Day Cards using stencils
I know it’s almost Father’s Day, but I am out of school, and able to finally get some of my spring card projects posted. For my Mother’s Day Cards this year, I decided to use my Altenew Layered Dahlia Stencil, but challenged myself to color combinations I wouldn’t normally use, as well as coloring the leaves differently from the flower petals (something I often do not do, just in the interest of saving time!). I used several combinations of Distress inks: iced spruce, twisted citron, picked raspberry, and I think the last background was weathered wood (the trouble with waiting so long to post….). I used my clarity stencil brushes to apply the color, and some post it notes to cover the parts of the stencil I needed to mask off while applying the different colors.
I cut my Neenah solar crest white cardstock to 5 1/2″ by 4 1/4″, standard A2 size, knowing that I planned to cut it down and mount it. I used post it tape to secure the card and the stencil to my work surface.
I was pleasantly surprised how quickly I was able to lay finish stenciling several card fronts, in spite of the detail I was hoping to achieve.
I then stamped the word “Mother” in VersaMark ink using a stamp from the Family Matters set by Altenew. I stamped two on white cardstock, then used a combination of gold detail and silver detail embossing powder from Sparkle ‘N Sprinkle. My third sentiment was stamped on black card stock (Gina K Onyx Black), using white embossing powder (again from Sparkle ‘N Sprinkle). I mounted the white sentiments on black cardstock (Gina K onyx black), and the black sentiment on silver glitter cardstock (something from my stash….).

I mounted the card fronts on side opening card based I made from Neenah solar crest white cardstock (just 80#, that’s usually heavy enough for me). I finished off the inside with a sentiment from Concord and 9th’s Dahlia Turnabout set, “you are Amazing” using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
