Shaped Card and Sister Time

This weekend I was hanging out with my other crafting angels for some girl time. I decided to pull out my Pazzles electronic cutter and work on a shaped card for the Art Impressions Challenge this week. I am working hard to utilize my Pazzles more frequently as it is so convenient. This weekend was a good time to remind me of some basics with my cutter. The first thing is to look at your measurements of what you are cutting. I “eyeballed it” and ended up not putting a big enough piece of cardstock on my cutting mat. There are some great movable measurement guides built in that are super easy to use. Number two I forgot to check my paper thickness when I went to cut a second card. The first card was my prototype and I used cheap cardstock to run it through once. The second time I put on some watercolor paper. It did not cut and on my 5th pass I realized I forgot to extend my blade long enough to get through the paper. Two steps that will make things easy peasy the next time. I knew these but they weren’t ingrained but that will come with more time.

The challenge with Art Impressions was to make a shaped card. I thought what better than to make an arched trellis with a window into another scene. I have done a window card recently and I liked how it turned out so I played with my Pazzles, bench stamp, puppy stamp and some post it tape for masking. Next time I will add a tree branch hanging over the scene as I feel this was still a bit bare bones in the end. Since I was also just playing with my Pazzles my paper wasn’t the greatest, which you can see in the bench with some bleeding. I did like how I ended up just fitting my sentiment across the bottom of the card. It was a lot of fun making a shaped card and I really enjoyed the process. My “painting” skills are starting to improve as this time I didn’t watch any videos to get techniques. This was all me just “winging it” and working through the project. I am looking forward to trying something like this again. The nice thing about Art Impressions Watercolor Stamps is each time things are slightly different. You can try and make the same exact card and you can come close but the ink will flow a little differently each time and your placement of things ever so slightly different, which is what makes hand made cards so very special. Thanks for stopping by today. Leave a comment if you like what you see.
