Vellum Butterflies.

Recently two of my coworkers experienced the family loss of a grandparent. I realized I was sorely lacking in my sympathy card selection. It was time to make a few cards. No one likes to make sympathy cards, and a card can never take the pain away but hopefully it lets the person you care about know they are in your thoughts and prayers.

I have these fabulous butterfly layered dies from Tim Holtz-Sizzix that I absolutely love. They are two layers each. The effects you can get with alcohol inks, inlaid techniques, or even simple papers is always beautiful. In this case I wanted something softer so I simply layered some vellum behind the detailed layer.

My background was made blending distress oxide inks over a Hero Arts stencil with blending brushes. I mixed some metallic watercolor paint to splatter on the card. My sentiment is a lovely script stamp from Sizzix-Ellison in the Hanging sign with phrases set. I inked the stamp in an olive green and then over the top with clear embossing powder. This is one of my favorite trick to be able to emboss in any color without having to buy every color embossing powder.

I trimmed my background down so my white cardstock base could provide a simple 1/8 inch frame. I layered my butterfly on with some glue dots and curled the wings around the handle of a paint brush to add dimension. I love how you can see through the vellum wings to the inked background.

As always thanks for stopping by. Let me know if you have any questions.
