YNS sketch and color challenge 89.
Greetings from Michigan. Today I am hanging out at one of the most beautiful spots in Michigan. It may be raining today but I have found that Lake Michigan is beautiful in all weather. The weather and location have nothing to do with today’s post but it will explain any editing errors or oddities in my post. I am attempting to type this on my phone. I don’t have one of the mega large phones most people run around with today. I have a tiny little phone, man sized hands and eyes over forty. Needless to say expect some typos. The rain also explains why I am crafting and not out reading on a sand dune.
So today is another sketch and color challenge for Your Next Stamp. This is number 89. I used Waddles Happy Brr-thday stamp set. I love the cute penguins and all their poses.
I used three different Waddles and colored them with my son’s Prismacolor Pencils and Gamsol. I have seen this technique and wanted to give it a try. I don’t have color pencils of my own so I borrowed my son’s set to see how I liked them. They may go on my Christmas list as they are not messy and easily pack in a suitcase. I have a lot to learn about shading techniques but I think with practice I could really like this medium.
After coloring them I fussy cut all of my penguins out. Then I inked up some Neenah 80lb paper with Tim Holtz distress ink in Mermaid Lagoon and Cracked Pistachio. I mixed the inks on a plastic sheet to get a shade closer to the color on my hat and balloons, dragged my paper through the ink and then cut strips from them. After I cut them I decided I wanted them to sparkle like snow so I used my spectrum noir sparkle pen to add a little happiness to the stripes. One of my Waddles is placed so he looks like he is sliding down the stripe.
For the background I used my Concord and 9th plaid background set. I love this set for its versatility. You can do a basic plaid like I did today. You can add extra stripes and I have even offset the plaid and used two different colors to get a very interesting shaded look. I stamped a simple sentiment on the bottom right corner using versa fine and clear embossing powder.
For final touches I used my sparkle pen on two of the hats and my glossy accents on the balloon and the third hat. When you are not in your craft room and find you have left home without something you have to figure it out or go without. I realized my foam tape was left at home. I wanted to give the penguins a lift but there was no foam tape to be had. I didn’t have the patience to fussy cut multiple layers of penguins and I don’t have my dies and Big Kick with me. I found a box of Zots in the bottom of my bag. I layered a bunch of Zots…. they are not as sturdy as foam tape but it got the job done. The card front was applied to a card base made of Neenah 80lb solar white. While this would be a great Kids card it may actually go to my Father-In-Law. My birthday alarm went off on my phone and obviously I am not home to pull a masculine card from my stash. Soooo I asked my husband if his dad would like a penguin card. My ever supportive husband said yes a penguin card would be fine. So I will pop this in the mail after I post my blog. Have a great day and thanks for reading.
