AECP: Clean and Simple Boutique Cards and Altenew January 2019

Continuing my streak of snow days, and my journey through the Altenew Academy….. snow days have afforded me a chunk of time to sit and finish up some classes I had started over winter break. Today I was able to wrap up a couple, one of them being the Clean and Simple Boutique Cards, which I truly enjoyed! I loved some of the details that this class brought to the forefront, such as matching envelopes, specialty papers, metallic details, etc that can make a clean and simple card really stand out.

The project I chose to focus on for this post is using metallic details. For my card front, I inked up a piece of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White card stack using Altenew’s Lagoon crisp dye ink (LOVE this color), then I die cut it using the Altenew Dodec cover die. I stamped the larger lotus from Altenew’s Lotus stamp set first using Peach Parfait, then Coral Bliss for the outline. I then stamped the detail layer using Versamark ink and coating it with Altenew’s Rose Gold embossing powder. I used two of the leaves from the same stamp set, using lagoon and then the same embossing powder for the details. I then used the matching die set to cut out the flower and leaves. I inked up a strip of white card stock in Altenew’s Coral Bliss crisp dye ink, then stamped a happy birthday sentiment from Altenew’s Birthday Builder set, again using Versamark ink and rose gold embossing powder.in order to ground the card, and not have the elements appear to be floating, I adhered the flowers and stems to the bottom right side of the card, and the sentiment strip just above that, with some of the petals overlapping the edge of the sentiment strip.

My color inspiration came from the January challenge, but my inspiration for this particular card came from the class itself, and my lotus stamp and die set that I have been wanting to dig into and use more than I have. I love how the rose gold details add shine to the card, without it being over the top. I can’t wait to continue using some of these techniques in my card making, such as adding in specialty papers (I love mirrored card stock!), creating my own simple repeated stamped backgrounds, and continuing to make matching envelopes. It’s the little details that can have the biggest impact!

As always, thank you for reading my blog. Please check out the classes offered through the Altenew Academy, and I hope this inspires you to go out and create something. Stay warm!
