Embossing techniques
I love the magic of heating embossing powder…..watching a powder melt into shiny, shimmery goodness! The first time I tried heat embossing, I fell in love with this process. So I was excited to take an embossing class through the Altenew Academy. Svetlana Marchenko was the instructor for a class title “Impressive Heat Embossing”, and she created so many stunning cards for these classes. I decided to use two of her ideas, clear embossing powder on colored card stock, and ombre embossing, but put my own twist on them.
I used three pieces of cardstock, one white, one I blended with spun sugar distress ink, and the last I blended with worn lipstick distress ink. I used the flowers from my Happy Heart stamp set, and the sentiment is from the Painted Rose stamp set, and stamped all three layers at the same time, embossing the white layer with rose gold embossing powder, the spun sugar layer with silver embossing powder, and the worn lipstick layer with clear embossing powder. The idea was that the embossing is a sort of ombre, moving from the most subtle embossing on the outer layer, to the most intense embossing in the center, and the card stock colors were the opposite, with most intense color being the outer layer. I used a layered rectangle die set from Spellbinders to cut my rectangles and outer frame. I then adhered the outermost layer directly on my card base. The middle rectangle I popped up using craft foam on the back of it before adhering it to the center of the outer frame. I did the same with the inner most layer, popping it up again with craft foam before adhering it. I decided this card had enough going on, and didn’t need any further embellishing. I love the elegance of this card, and can’t wait to send it to someone special!
As always, thank you for reading my blog, and I hope this inspires you to go out and create something!
