My Take on “Lots of Hearts” Challenge.

Well it is a bitterly cold Michigan day today. I am enjoying a warm cup of tea and a day in my craft room. Once again I decided to work on a few challenges. In my next post I may try and combine a few but today I just wanted to focus on my Art impressions card I worked on for the Lots of Hearts challenge.

I recently got the puppies flutters set and thought that would be perfect for a valentines card. With the little puppy in the back I thought it would be great if I could place a ball with a heart on it under his left paw. The stamp I had picked out did not work at all. It was a circle with a heart in the center but I couldn’t shade it to make it look round and it was too small. I ended up with this heart that looks wound in string because it was the right size. I added some glossy accents to make it look dimensional. Honestly, it needs tweeked but I think it turned out ok for my first attempt.

There is a lot of masking going on in this card. First I stamped the heart, then masked the heart. Next I stamped the puppies and cut a mask for the puppies. Last I stamped the tails over the puppies mask. With the Flutters stamps there is a small black dot on the stamp so you know where to put the brads. I decided to not make the tails flutter for this card, so I used a q-tip to wipe off the ink on the black dots prior to stamping so they would not show up on the final stamped image. I colored the images with Prismacolor pencils and Gamsol as I wanted a smoother look to the puppies. I used a heart die to cut the focal image out and placed it on bright pink card base.

I decided I wanted a sprinkle of hearts in contrasting colors so I grabbed my Cascading Hearts die from spellbinders and cut out a portion from both pink and white paper. I glued the hearts on and added some shimmer accents to the hearts with a shimmer pen.

My last step was the sentiment. The puppies flutters comes with a “Happy tails to you” stamp but I wanted something to reflect the holiday. I pulled an old “happy valentines day” stamp out and masked off the end and masked off the front of the puppy flutters stamp to create a totally new stamp that read Happy ValenTails to you. My son loves puns so I couldn’t resist. Thanks for stopping by today.
