Translucent Embossing Glazes and Magicals: Creating a Sympathy Card

Magicals Fun
I recently purchased a few colors of embossing glaze and some Lindy’s Gang Magical Powders. Using Distress Watercolor Paper, I created a background panel using the Magicals (I no longer remember exactly which colors I used….., as I was having so much fun and just kept making background after background!). I alternated between sprinkling the powders on wet cardstock, and then adding more powder and water to the dried panel. After it dried, I stamped the 23rd Psalm (Sweet n Sassy stamps) in Harbour ink (Close to My Heart).

Embossing Glaze Time!

Using my Misti, I positioned the card panel in the bottom left corner, and placed the cattail stamp (CTMH, Dragonfly Wishes) in the corner. I stamped it using Versamark ink, and coated it with Rusty Hinge embossing glaze. I repeated this to give the cattails a little more dimension. From the same stamp set, I selected two dragonflies, and repeated the process twice, using Salty Ocean embossing glaze. I used some scraps from the background to play around with the embossing glazes to find just the right colors. As they are translucent as opposed to opaque, the background colors impact the actual color of the image. I originally had pulled out Twisted Citron instead of the Salty Ocean, but it really ended up blending in to the background too much. I wanted the dragonflies to “pop” just a little more, without being the focal point. Salty Ocean turned out to be perfect.

Sentiment

I love the “with sympathy” stamp from the dragonfly sympathy stamp set (CTMH), so I pulled that out and stamped it on navy (in the navy, Gina K Designs) cardstock. I again used Versamark ink, but this time went with white embossing powder as opposed to using an embossing glaze. After adhering this small panel to the bottom right of the card panel, I double matted it, using Sizzix opulent French Navy glitter card stock, and Sizzix Opulent gold shimmer.

On the inside of the card base, I stamped the cattails in the lower corner using toffee ink (CTMH). As I wanted this to be lighter, an echo of the image from the front, I stamped the image once on scrap cardstock, using a second generation image. To finish this off, I stamped Psalm 34:4 as the main sentiment (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps).

As always, thank you for reading, and I hope this inspires to you to be creative today!
