Watercolor Pencils and Daffodils

daffodil 1

Greetings from Michigan! It is a misty spring day and the birds seem to be enjoying it.  I took my fur baby for a walk this evening and listened to them chirping in the trees.  So we are not gardeners.  We live in the middle of farm country and we do not grow things.  My husband is a minimalist.  We have lots of rock beds with junipers in them. Spring comes, rake the leaves out from around the bushes, give them a trim and you are done. I tried planting flowers but somehow always got distracted by something the kids were doing and the weeds overtook everything. The only flowering plants left over after fifteen years are my daffodils and tulips.  I love seeing them poke their yellow heads up in the spring. It means that even in Michigan the possibility of snow is coming to an end.  Above is one of my daffodils in my lone flower bed.

Since it is spring here I decided to pull out my daffodil card. I love the different shades of yellow, orange and white that come up every year in my yard.  Below are a couple of card panels I colored.  The stamp is from Gina K Designs set  “Sending Love” and it is the perfect size for an A2 card. I colored the stamp using Prismacolor Watercolor Pencils. I really love my watercolor pencils and they work pretty well as a traveling companion.  I was on a trip last summer where I took my pencils, prestamped images, a paper towel and a waterbrush with me on my flight. The waterbrush and papertowel eliminates the need for a cup of water that can spill. I only took simple images as the lighting is not great but it helps to pass the time.  I found it even helped entertain a little person that was getting antsy next to me.  We shared crayons and coloring tips for a bit.  She like my stamped images and took a few home with her.

When I cut the panel down I decided I wanted to keep the card simple.  The flowers are a great focal image and I wanted them to take center stage.  I simply backed the panel on green cardstock and attached it to a white card base. I stamped my sentiment in black Versafine Ink and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder.  I trimmed the sentiment down and popped it up on some pop dots and the card is done. Have a good evening and take a moment to enjoy the birds or flowers in your area.
