With a twist
After a brief restorative break from school and some family time, I am back! Continuing on with my Altenew academy journey…..my next class was “with a twist. ” This class was so fun! It is all about thinking outside of the box by using different color combinations, using a color different than normally expected, using products differently, etc. I have two cards that I am focusing on for this post. Both are Father’s Day cards, so forgive the late post. Both also use Altenew’s “Love You So Mush” stamp and die set. The second one is where I feel I really took off with twisting things….please let you me know what you think!
The first card, as I find I often do, is similar to one in the class. I stamped the mushrooms randomly on an A2 sized piece of Wild wisteria (Gina K) card stock, using Versamark ink, then embossing in pearl embossing powder, with the tops of the mushrooms in peacock embossing powder (sparkle n sprinkle). I cut the card stock on an angle, then mounted it on onyx cardstock cut at the same angle, just slightly longer. I stamped the sentiment “You’re a fungi” in black ink on white card stock, then embossed it with clear embossing powder. I double mounted the sentiment on wisteria and onyx card stocks, and adhered it to the card front. I then attached the whole card front to a base I had made earlier. Done!
The second card is where I really “twisted” a few things. I started with my kaleidoscope stencil (layer B), and tea dye distress ink. After I laid down my first layer of color, I rotated the stencil just slightly, and laid down another layer of the same ink. When I removed the stencil, I loved it! This gives the feel of using two inks, but it is just one color, intensified.
I then stamped several mushrooms in various colors, purple, red, aqua, etc, then stamped the caps in contrasting colors, and cut them out using the matching dies. I arranged these on the front of the card, and arranged a few of the hearts around the mushrooms.
For the sentiment, I stamped “love you” on vellum, using versa mark ink and blue embossing powder. I stamped the word “mush” in jet black ink on white card stock, then used clear embossing powder to give it some shine. I trimmed the white card stock thinner on either side of the word mush, then mounted it below, but slightly overlapping the vellum sentiment, wrapping the vellum around the back side of the card stock. I added two more hearts on top of the vellum and white card stock to finish it off.
As always, thank you for stopping by and reading our blog, and I hope this inspires you to go out and create something!
