Hi, Mama Elephant Style
I was playing with some of my Mama Elephant stamps this week, mixing my Lunar Animals and my Stackable Cuties. Decided I wanted to work on my masking techniques. The challenge I set myself was to try and make the word “hi” out of animals. So a lot of fussy cutting of masking paper, some strategic stamping and you see my attempt below.

After getting all the animals down on the paper I decided I wanted to ink the background and didn’t want to have to fussy cut a big mask for the project so I pulled out my masking fluid. Something I learned this time is that Masking Fluid can affect the ink you stamped the image in. I started with Memento Ink and them randomly grabbed my Versafine pad and didn’t realize it until I was halfway through my project.

If you look closely at the “HI” image the elephant and cow both have quite a bit of blurring and smearing of the ink from the masking fluid. The ink was completely dry and set when I applied the masking fluid so lesson learned. Maybe heat emboss in clear prior to using masking fluid. I ended up only coloring the “hi” card as the stamping stayed more crisp. I felt the blurring was too noticeable in the “HI” card.

I pulled out my distress oxide inks and blended the background I wanted and then added some water droplets to move the ink. My primacolor pencils were used to bring my animals to life.

My final touches include putting it on a simple white card base. I Added a quick sentiment elevated on foam tape and some flapping wing lines for my unicorn to make him look like he is hovering as the tittle in my little i. After I load my images I almost always realize there was one small detail I missed or needed to add. In this case I would have added some white gel pen accents. Ah, well we live and learn right? Thanks for stopping by.
