Inked backgroundsz

I love inking backgrounds. using ink

to blend and

backgrounds is one of my favorite things to make. For my Altenew Academy inking class, I decided to try something a little different for me.

Using Neenah classic crest solar white card stock, I started by embossing the sentiment thank you (from Altenew’s Painted Rose Stamp set) in white, then inking the background around he sentiment with Altenew Caribbean Sky crisp dye ink. I inked the area directly around the sentiment most intensely, fading as I worked my way out. I then placed some die cut leaves from Altenew’s Golden Garden stamp set on the background, and inked the background again over the leaves, which left the leaf design lighter than other areas of the background.

I stamped two more of the same leaf and branch image, and one of a different design from the same set, using Versa mark ink and white embossing powder, and then inked those in frayed leaf. I used the matching die to cut them out. As I was playing with the layout of the leaves, I decided the card front needed a little something more. Using my Mama Elephant Basic Borders set, I stamped a black and white striped border, then trimmed it on my paper trimmer. I adhered the black and white strip on the left edge of the card front, then mounted the green leaf die cuts using foam tape to add some dimension. I added three crystals from Close to the Heart around the sentiment to finish off the card.

I really love the subtle background detail for this card, and actually am very happy with how the whole card came out. As I stated earlier, I love inking, so this class, Easy Ink Blending Techniques, was one I really enjoyed. My biggest take aways from this class would be to slow down and build the ink up in layers, and to go ahead and add details to the background. The instructor had created a bokeh dot background, and while I love circles, I wanted to stretch myself and try something different. I had extra die cuts of the leaf pattern laying around anyway, so I decided to just play around and see how it came out. It was a happy experiment! My inspiration was completely from taking the class and a desire to play around and see what I could come up with.

As always, thank you for reading my blog. And I hope this inspires you to go out and create something!
