Jungle Birthday Card

Time to play with some more Mama Elephant stamps from my Stackable Cuties Set. I was looking for a cute little boy card and I wanted to try and incorporate multiple windows. In most of my cards I put the main scene on the outside and then struggle with the inside. This time I turned things inside out. I did a lot of masking for this card.

Quick supply list, I am going by memory so I may forget something.
Stamps- Stackable Cuties by Mama Elephant, Stamp a Garden by Hot of the press, Branch stamp by Art Impressions. Paper- Neenah Solar white, Inks Memento, Gina K and Versafine. Dies- Must Haves Circles by Scrapbooking Made Simple. Clear Embossing Powder by Sparkle and Sprinkle. Cardstock on the front were random scraps in my craft room. Copic markers in various colors

My first decision was where to place my animals. Once I stamped them in place, I cut a mask so I could build my scenery around them. I used some scraps to form the top edge of the hill and ink blended in the base. A grass stamp in various greens came in next to provide, well grass. Guess it makes sense to make grass be grass….. Next vines and trees. I stamped in a branch under the monkey while my mask was still in place. Next I added branches and thickened some with my Copic Markers and then added leaves from my stamp a garden set to fill in the greenery. Some vines are placed along the sides of the card to make the jungle look more lush.

This is the point where I always get a little stumped. How to get my sky in without destroying what I created. I didn’t use watercolor paper so that medium was out. I didn’t want to have to cut masks for all the leave and branches in addition to the animals, fussy cutting is not my favorite thing. As I thought about it I realized that I wanted my leaves to have a waxy, shiny look to them and my stamps were still out on my desk.

I decided to clear emboss the leaves. It served two purposes, one was to make the leaves shiny and the second they would now resist my ink when I ink blended in the sky. So my masks stayed on my critters and I ink blended in the sky. My animals were colored in with Copic Markers and my inner panel was almost complete.

Now for the outside. I scored my cardstock and tucked my inner scene inside the card. My circles dies were lined up and I cut the center circles first then offset different cute cut patterns around the windows.

I decorated my outside with patterned paper that would match the inside colors. My sentiment was added to my grey paper and I hand cut the wavy edge for some interest.

As always I usually find one more thing to change or add at the last minute. This time I decided I wanted a sentiment inside also but I didn’t want to cover up my picture. I added some speech bubbles that came with the Stackable Cuties Set and that finishes my card. Thanks for stopping by today. Let me know if you have any questions.
