Spring Card and Falling Back in Love with my Pazzles.
There is an ever so small hint of spring in the air here in Michigan. It was so nice to feel warm some place other than in a building or wearing six layers of clothes when outside. The sun was gorgeous today! It was so nice to actually see the sun out in all its glory. Now if the spring flowers would start to peek out. Since I still have some time before that happens here, I decided to play along with the Art Impressions Challenge “Floral Cards”.
Since I am very new to the watercolor technique that Art Impressions, I have been watching lots of educational videos and painting along. This is my second attempt at actually creating my own card without watching a video. I really wanted to have the stump be along a river but I couldn’t figure it out this time so there is just a nice clear sky behind it. Instead I created a path in front of the stump. There is a little kitten tucked in next to the stump enjoying the sun. Lots of wildflowers line the path along with flowers growing out of the stump.
When I was finished, I wanted to figure out a way to frame the stump and kitten but the dies I had didn’t add the effect I was looking for. I had a corner die with latticework, but it was the wrong size and shape. Then I had one of those moments. I had been reading my e-mail and saw a design team call for Pazzles. At the time I wanted to kick myself because last summer I promised myself I would start to use my electric cutter again regularly so I could apply for their next team call. Here it is March and I had dusted it off once. When I first bought it, my machine communicated with aliens on a regular basis. (If you have ever seen E.T. and used one of these machines you will now what I mean). In this case I wanted a lattice structure to act as a window. The lattice was important so you could see peeks of all the flowers I had painted. I found a e-die that I thought would work and set about editing it. The best think about an electric die cutter is you can adjust the sizes of your e-die. In this case I adjusted the overall size to fit a 5×7 card and made the center circle a little bit bigger. There is so much I could have done to edit this more, but I wanted to finish the card tonight. I also would have pulled out some inks or chalks to give the lattice more dimension with a bit more time. That will be in the future.
To finish I added a sentiment to the front in a cocoa brown. I usually use black but felt it was to stark a contrast with the soft watercolor picture I was channeling. Thanks so much for stopping by. If you have any questions, please let me know.

I love the lattice layer over your watercolor. And that kitten looks like he’s really enjoying the sunshine!

Your watercoloring is beautiful, as is your card! Very clever to add the lattice die cut too! Thank you for joining in our Floral Cards challenge at Art Impressions.

This is so very pretty! I love that you created a “window” with your die. It reminds me of a garden trellis and goes perfect with the scene you created. Thanks for joining us at Art Impressions.
